Penemo (Perl Network Monitor) is network monitoring software which utilizes the SNMP & HTTP protocols, and can perform 'ping checks' on specified hosts. It supports notification though email or external command, and a command line switch to perform notification functions to incorporate with other system processes that might need to notify you.

Release Notes : This release has a HUGE amount of new features and bug fixes. To top it off, I'm releasing it as stable. From here on, 1.0.x will be bug fixes and minor changes. 1.1 (when started) will be the development branch, that will incorporate new ideas into the existing code. Enjoy!
