It has a plain terminal interface but supports visual interfaces such as X-Windows "xboard" and Windows-for-PC "winboard" as well as a full 3-dimensional wooden chess-board protocol for the Novag Chess board enabling one to be relatively free of the computer itself. GNU Chess 5.07by Anonymous on Jun 30, 2009Yes, the program is "smarter" on faster machines since it takes less time to process potential moves. You can counter this by greatly reducing the amount of time per move allowed. I currently have mine set to 800 moves per minute but I still lose most games.

It seems to be smarter on faster machines - is this true? It also always plays the same game if you repeat the same moves from the previous time. It would be good to vary and thus avoid identical games.
