GARNOME - Build utility that allows users to build the GNOME Desktop.
Updated by FastRunner on Thursday, September 25th 2008.
GARNOME is a build utility that allows users to build the GNOME Desktop.
Based on the GAR ports system developed by Nick Moffitt. It downloads, builds and installs the GNOME Desktop from the latest tarball releases. It also includes extra GNOME software to provide users with a comfortable and complete desktop environment.
Garnome itself is quite a cool idea, actually it is what i've been hoping for for quite some time . . .
In the end it is quite a bother to use and fails without a clear indication of what happened.
Support is limited to Fedora and Ubuntu which is never enough.
Sources seem to be suspectible to failure as authors stop publishing packages etc. People behind an ftp-blocking proxy are also dead in the water for some packages ....
I think of proposing myself as test-engineer for Garnome ...
