Mandrake Linux 10, which is based on kernel 2.6, offers the most advanced Linux features currently available -- in terms of technology as well as the most up-to-date software. In addition to recently introduced technologies such as MagicDev, NTFS partition resizing, ACPI power-management, "Zeroconf" network support, Native POSIX Threads Library for Xfree and expanded WiFi support, Mandrake 10.0-Community offers countless improvements, such as a beautiful desktop theme, improved configuration tools and of course KDE 3.2, GNOME 2.4.2, OpenOffice 1.1, Mozilla 1.6, The Gimp 1.2.5. Mandrake Linux also suits perfectly well developers, with Glibc 2.3.3, GCC 3.3.2 and kDevelop.
If you think that 7.2 is good, just wait till you see 8.0!
I have a RC1 running on my desktop now, with two monitors (xinerama), galeon, new configuration progs are GREAT, printing is a pleasure, and even my USB webcam works now!!!

Ease of installation beats REDHAT dist. I don't know what made RedHat such a big deal. Some say RedHat is the MS of Linux. I tend to blieve it. Mandrake have problems of its own. Mandrake 8.0 tried to take control from the user and do some of the thing "automatically". I don't why? But overall Mandrake beats all other distribuation that I have used. I have use all except SUSE.
Question for posters

Can anyone explain why it's better than what they were using; if it's better because X now supports your graphics card that is quite lame as any distro with the newest X will have that. How about content against other distributions of than this one is great with no references to how it's great. How does it stand up against installing progams that do not come packaged that you have to compile? How are the admin tools? Do they stay on top of security measures?

I've recently installed the Powerpack edition on my Dell desktop and on a new Dell laptop. A very smooth install, everything worked first time. I have ppp, networking, sound, printer, everything. Very slick distribution and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Be careful with the customer service

I bought the Power Pack 8.0 directly from Mandrake Store in California and I live in Mexico City. After being used to buy books and software from Amazon I didn't think I'd have any problem with the shipment. When I got the box from UPS they told me I needed to pay 45 extra USD because the box was sent as "CD's and documents" and not as "Books and companion CD's", which don't pay taxes. Another problem is that they declared the cost of the items as 89.00 USD (Power Pack 8.0 plus shipment) instead of 69.00 USD, which was the price for the Power Pack alone. After contacting Mandrake's Customer Service they said everything was in order and they did not help me to solve the problem (they did not even answer my last e-mail) so, I had to pay an extra 45 USD to have the box in my hands.
If you live out of the US try to ask first for a correct bill in order to avoid that tax payment.
