The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
The GIMP has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.
GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.
This program is a must download, it makes my art look really good when i scan it and add effects......good job to the developers keep up the good work.
p.s.
more plug-ins please

The Gimp is the best free image editor, I have ever come across (and believe me, I've been searching for a good image editor for a LONG TIME). Whoever created it is GREAT!!!

It's amazing what you can do in Gimp that other graphics programs don't come close to. Everyday I learn something new that is helpful. It's become the only graphics editor that I use, on both Windows and Linux.
