Applets

Desktop applets add small, focused functions to a panel, workspace, or gadget area. GNOME Applets supplies panel tools, while Google Gadgets for Linux runs desktop gadgets from a shared platform. Other entries include compact visual widgets such as a fish tank for the desktop. These programs are designed to sit alongside the main desktop rather than act as full applications.
