News software in this category centers on Usenet and NNTP. Reader clients connect to news servers to browse and follow discussion groups, while servers store and distribute the groups between systems. Other utilities search, collect, or publish material from news and related sources. These tools support both reading networked discussions and maintaining the services that carry them, rather than general news websites or RSS readers.
