About MindTemplate

Last updated on

MindTemplate is a general template engine used for generating any type of text document from a template. With MindTemplate you get a simple development environment consisting of an editor, a test enviroment and a simple HTTP server so you can see the resulting HTML from a browser, it is also possible to generate stub servlet code automatically from your test data.

MindTemplate is used mostly for generating HTML from servlets but it can also be used for generating XML, RTF, WML, e-mail text, source code and configuration files. MindTemplate has existed in different forms for several years, its concepts are proven, its implementation is robust and it performs well. MindTemplate has been used in many different types of applications ranging from military simulations to Internet banking applications.

The difference between MindTemplate and JSP/ASP is that content can be generated outside a webserver and that the layout is completely separated from the application code. MindTemplate defines a well-formed tag language (by default it is embedded in HTML comments). There is no scripting language involved. No calls are made from the template to the application and no calls are made from the application code to the template. The result of this is that an application becomes easier to maintain and you get a higher degree of reuse since the same template can be used with different application code and the same application code can be used with different templates.
