Thongs is a lightweight console utility for network traffic sniffing and analyzing, providing also ethernet frame generation capabilities. Thongs can also filter captured traffic using raw data filters and some protocol aware filters. Currently thongs can decode ethernet, IPv4, arp, icmp, UDP and UDPCP protocols. However due to the modular nature of thongs, adding new protocol parsers is not too complicated.
Thongs stores the captured frames in pcapNG format which is recognized by many tools including wireshark.
