About Vercel Skills CLIv1.7.0

Last updated on

Vercel Skills CLI gives developers one terminal workflow for managing skills across coding agents. A skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file with instructions for a particular task. The CLI finds these folders, installs them in locations supported by the agents you choose, and helps keep installed skills up to date. It is especially useful on Linux if you work with more than one assistant and want to reuse the same skill sources.

To explore what is available, run npx skills find or inspect a repository before installing from it. For example, npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills --list lists its skills, while npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills starts the installation flow. You can select individual skills, name the agents that should receive them, or use a Git URL, local directory, or supported direct download as the source. The CLI also provides commands to list, update, and remove installed skills, plus skills use for trying a skill without installing it.

Project or global installation

A project installation is the default. It places skills under agent-specific directories in the current project, making them suitable for a repository shared with teammates. Add -g for a global installation in your user directory, where the skills can be available across projects. The installer can link agents to a shared skill copy or use --copy to create separate copies.

Which agents does it support?

The CLI lists Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, and many other targets. Use --agent when you want to choose explicitly. Installation puts a skill where an agent expects to find it; what the agent can do with that skill still depends on the agent and the skill’s instructions.

Vercel Skills CLI is a practical choice for developers who collect skills from multiple repositories or switch between coding agents. It manages distribution rather than creating the skills’ content. If you primarily need to expose skills through an AGENTS.md workflow, OpenSkills is another installer to compare.
