SYSLINUX is a boot loader for the Linux operating systemwhich operates off MS-DOS floppies. It is intended tosimplify first-time installation of Linux, rescuedisks, and other uses for boot floppies. A SYSLINUX floppycan be manipulated using standard MS-DOS (or any otherOS that can access an MS-DOS filesystem) tools onceit has been created; and requires only a ~ 9K DOS programor ~ 19K Linux program to create in the first place.Starting with version 1.46 it also includes PXELINUX, aprogram to boot off a network server using a boot PROMcompatible with the Intel PXE (Pre-ExecutionEnvironment) specification.Starting with version 1.60 it also includes ISOLINUX,a program to boot off an ISO 9660 in nativeno-emulation mode.Starting with version 1.65, it additionally includesMEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy operating systems fromnontraditional media like PXE or CD-ROM.
