Sylpheed is an e-mail client (and news reader) based on GTK+, running on X Window System, and aiming for: Quick response, Graceful, and sophisticated interface,Easy configuration, intuitive operation, Abundant features. The appearance and interface are similar to some popular e-mail clients for Windows, such as Outlook Express, Becky!, and Datula. The interface is also designed to emulate the mailers on Emacsen, and almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. The messages are managed by MH format, and you will be able to use it together with another mailer based on MH format (like Mew). You can also use fetchmail or/and procmail, and external programs on receiving (like inc or imget).

Sylpheed is the best Graphical MUA I've seen so far, It is very fast, easy to configure, and VERY easy to use.(especially if you're used to M$ Outlook etc.)

Sylpheed

When I discovered Sylpheed last spring it was already the best MUA for my limited needs. I've been impressed with it's rapid development and now it has many high-end features while still being very fast.

Real High Feature:Weight Ratio

The best thing about Sylpheed is that despite being lightweight, it's really feature rich. The similarity of the interface with some of the most popular mail clients is an added benefit. 5 Star Deserving, indeed.

As far as MUA's go...

You've tried the rest, Sylpheed's the best !!! Not much more to say than that.

Sylpheed - All GUI dev should be like this!

Fast to start, easy to use. Just shows that there can be efficient GUI development - if only it could all follow Sylpheed's example. Chris Drabble England

Nothing compares

I tried almost every other X based MUA... then I found Sylpheed. Short of when I found PHP (after years of writing CGI scripts in C) I don't think I've been so overwhelmed. Sylpheed is (as someone else said) a pinnacle example of what good coding can produce.

Things I love about Sylpheed

Things I love about Sylpheed: -being able to switch from one identity to another (work email, home email, etc) very quickly and easily -no HTML in sight! Yay! I hate HTML mail. -ability to add custom headers, or not. -the fact that Sylpheed doesn't insist on including a mail header saying what program was used to create the email. (Unless I enable custom headers. Rats that Sylpeed does identify itself then.) -ability to use PGP with the program -ability to download program in .zip format, unzip to a folder, and then use immediately - Windows installer available to those who need it, but not forced upon all. Yay! -program works when all .dll files are in Sylpheed folder along with .exe file. No need to clutter Windows registry -signature files stored as plain text within Sylpheed folder. -ruler to show how many characters in a line -ability to let text wrap, or click one button and have fixed-length lines of an appropriate length -ability to change character encoding. And one of the encoding schemes to choose from is Unicode. Yay! -Sylpheed is available for Linux and Windows. Very handy, as I'm now using a Windows machine but plan to move to Linux soon. -program released under GNU General Public License. Most reassuring. I've only just started using this program, but already like it better than TheBat, Eudora, Outlook, etc. It's the best GUI-based email program I've come across so far on the Windows platform. When it comes to things I like in an email program, the only thing that rivals Sylpheed is Pine, and that's a whole different kind of beast anyway. Thank you for this excellent program!

Sylpheed 2.7.0

If you like Sylpheed you should also have a look at Claws-mail, previously the bleeding edge project of Sylpheed but now forked off as a totally separate project. regards Martin
