Zgv is a full-featured picture viewer for VGA/SVGA displays which supports most popular formats. (It uses svgalib.) It provides a file selector with thumbnails to select file(s) to view, and allows panning and fit-to-screen methods of viewing, slideshows, scaling, etc.

I have been using BT5 R2 for a while and I really like it, it is simple and powerful.
Unity ruined Ubuntu
Latest versions of Ubuntu have Unity desktop and it is a complete disaster. With 11.04 I've switched to Kubuntu with KDE desktop and it is light years ahead, even compared to good old Ubuntu with GNOMe 2 desktop.

Yep, the learning curve is steep, but emerge -auvD world makes up for it. :)
