OpenLDev is a graphical front-end to various Linux development tools such as gcc, autotools and make. Most Integrated Development Environments (IDE), are cumbersome and confusing to use, but OpenLDev strives to provide an easy-to-use interface that is both productive for experts and simple for beginners.

In order to create a simple IDE, OpenLDev focuses on C and C++ development, although it is capable of handling any language supported by autotools.

Project and autotools management is provided through a few streamlined dialogs that remove the necessity of editing Makefiles. The GtkSourceView widget performs syntax highlighting, which provides users with a familiar work environment to the popular Gnome text editor GEdit. The IDE also has auto-completion capabilites.

OpenLDev now sports a simple plugin system that allows you to extend the basic functionality of the IDE. For example, a graphical Makefile Editor is available in the left pane through one of the default plugins.
