XACT2.18 Build 5207

XACT stands for X Audio Compression Toolkit. It is a GUI based front end for the unix applications Shorten, shntool, Monkey's Audio Compressor, flac, wavpack, TTA and cdda2wav. It also uses SoX, LAME, AtomicParsley, TagLib and mp4v2. It executes the basic commands of these applications and adds other features to speed up productivity in creation/use of etree.org standard filesets.

The basic functions of xACT are split into various tabs in the application. To convert files from a compressed format like FLAC, SHN, Monkey's Audio, Wavepack, Apple Lossless, etc to aiff or wav, you use the "Decode" tab. To convert files to these losslessly compressed formats, use the "Encode" tab.
